Why is the Battery on my Brand New Automotive Device Not Charged?

In compliance with regulations of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), your device will arrive with the battery discharged.

Even with a discharged battery, the device will still power on and operate normally when plugged into the vehicle when using the provided vehicle power cable.

Before attempting to connect to the computer to update, or before using the device on battery power, use your device with the included vehicle power cable for several hours.  This will charge the battery to an acceptable level which will allow your computer/Garmin Express to recognize your device.

Or, plug your device into a 2A or greater A/C charger (not included with device) and allow the device to fully charge for a minimum of 6 hours before plugging the device into a USB cable and connecting to your computer.

It is recommended to always have the device plugged in when being used. The device will charge while it is plugged in, however, the only way to determine if it is fully charged is to have it unplugged from power.  The Where To?/View Map screen will display the battery icon in the top right corner.
