Using a Heart Rate Monitor Strap While Diving
While our Garmin Descent watches support wrist based heart rate detection, many customers ask how to track their heart rate while wearing a dry suit. Descent watches can pair with Garmin heart rate straps to record heart rate during a dive, such as the HRM-Pro, HRM-Swim, and HRM-Tri. The HRM-Pro, HRM-Swim, and HRM-Tri are designed for surface open water swimming and pool swimming, with a rating up to 5 ATMs. For additional information on swimming with heart rate monitors see Related Content. For more information on water ratings, visit our Water Rating page. In addition there will be limitations, while diving with an HRM strap:
Using a Heart Rate Monitor Strap During a Dive Activity
- Before entering the water, the HRM strap will need to be paired
- Do not exceed the 5 ATM rating of the HRM Strap
- Heart Data will not transmit to the watch while in the water. See How Does the Store and Forward Feature on the HRM-Pro/Swim/Tri Strap Work? to learn more.
- Once you have finished your dive activity the Descent will ask if you wish to download the Heart Rate data that is stored to the strap from your dive
