Posting to Facebook from an inReach

Posting to a Facebook personal timeline directly from an inReach device is no longer available. This is due to changes by Facebook on how third parties can post on a user's behalf. Most websites and apps are not affected by the change, but the inReach devices cannot interface directly with Facebook in the way they are now required to.

However, there are two options listed below that provide alternative ways to share with your Facebook community.

Sharing Your MapShare Link on Your Facebook Timeline

You can share your MapShare link on your Facebook timeline using a computer or mobile device. Providing this link allows those that have access to your timeline to also access your MapShare page and see what you are uploading to it (tracks, messages, waypoints, etc.).

Ensure Your MapShare is Enabled and Set Up

Sharing Your MapShare Link

  1. Log in to the Garmin Explore Website
  2. Select Social
  3. Under MapShare, highlight and copy your unique MapShare URL (Usually starts with share.garmin.com/)
  4. Open up the Facebook app or website and paste the URL to your Facebook timeline

Your Facebook friends only need to click on the link you shared to see what you have uploaded to your MapShare. They will need an internet connection to access MapShare. For information on what a visitor to your MapShare page can do, see - Using Visitor Controls when Viewing a MapShare

Uploading Messages From Your inReach to Your Facebook Page

You can link your Facebook page1 with your inReach account so that when you send messages from your inReach device, it also uploads them to your Facebook page.

Important: For this to work, Facebook needs to be included as a contact for the message you send.

  1. Log in to the Garmin Explore Website
  2. Select Social
  3. Select Link Facebook, this will open the Facebook website
  4. Follow the prompts. It will confirm when your inReach is linked to Facebook
  5. Once you click OK, you will be brought back to your Explore account
  6. Select Don't Include Location or Include Location
  7. Select the page from the Post to the following page:: drop-down
