Syncing an inReach Explorer/+, SE/+, or inReach Mini for Professional Users

It is important to sync an inReach device after any account changes are made on the Garmin Explore website as outlined in section 2.2 of the Service Terms for inReach Professional Service Plans.

Syncing data, contacts, (such as Check-In Messages (formerly known as Preset Messages), Contacts, etc.) or Quick Text Messages, maps,1 and account changes is done using the inReach Sync desktop app. This can be performed by the administrator or sub-users who have been provided a log in email address and password for the Garmin Explore website.

IMPORTANT FOR ADMINISTRATORS: Passwords must be set for sub-users before they can sync their assigned devices with the inReach Sync desktop app. For steps to set user passwords, see the owner's manual.

Administrator Steps to Sync with inReach Sync Desktop App


1. Install inReach Sync Desktop App on a Windows or Mac Computer

  1. Sign into explore.garmin.com with administrator credentials.
  2. Select UPDATE & SYNC.
  3. Click the Download and Install inReach Sync link.

  4. Follow on-screen instructions to complete installation on the computer.

2. Launch inReach Sync Desktop App

3. Sign in With Administrator

If you are the administrator of the account, the same email and password used to log into the Garmin Explore website can be used to sync an administrator-assigned device or any user-assigned device on the account.

  • Windows: Click Log In
  • Mac: Click inReach Sync from the top menu bar and select Sign In

4. Connect the inReach to the Computer With the USB Cable

Use the USB cable included with the inReach or any suitable USB cable that supports data transfer.

NOTE: If the inReach is not found, confirm that a USB cable supporting data transfer is being used. Some third-party USB cables only support charging and will not work for syncing.

Syncing should begin automatically once the inReach is found by the inReach Sync desktop app. When syncing is complete, the app will display "Your inReach is up to date."


Sub-User Steps to Sync with inReach Sync Desktop App


1. Install inReach Sync Desktop App on a Windows or Mac Computer

  1. Sign into explore.garmin.com with your user credentials.
    NOTE: If you do not have user log in credentials, contact your account administrator.
  2. Select Plans & Devices.
  3. Click the Sync & Update link.

  4. Click the (Windows or Mac) link below inReach Sync Desktop App.

  5. Click the downloaded file then follow onscreen prompts to complete installation.
    NOTE: If you do not see the downloaded file immediately, look in the Downloads folder of the File Explorer (Windows) or Downloads in Finder (Mac).

2. Launch inReach Sync Desktop App

3. Sign in With User Credentials

Sign in using the email address and password provided by the account administrator.
  • Windows: Click Log In
  • Mac: Click inReach Sync on the top menu bar and select Sign In

4. Connect the inReach to the Computer With the USB Cable

Use the USB cable that came with the inReach or any suitable USB cable that supports data transfer.
