Cross-Country (XC) Ski Dynamics on Garmin Watches

The Cross-Country (XC) Ski activity on your compatible Garmin watch now supports the Ski Power metric and data field1 when your watch is paired to an HRM-Pro/Pro Plus. The Ski Power metric will help you focus your training. You will also be able to set up power zones just like you can for cycling activities (D2 Mach 1, Enduro, epix (Gen 2) Series, epix Pro (Gen 2) Series, fēnix 6 Series, fēnix 7 Series, fēnix 7 Pro Series, MARQ Collection, MARQ Collection (Gen 2), tactix 7 Series, and Tactix Delta Series only).2

How Is Power Calculated for XC Ski Dynamics?

The HRM-Pro/Pro Plus uses information from internal sensors, along with speed and elevation data from the paired watch, to determine the glide phase of cross-country skiing. When in a glide phase, a fixed friction coefficient is calculated based on speed and elevation changes. If in an extended glide, the friction coefficient will be adjusted. These inputs are used to compute power.

NOTE: Without an HRM-Pro/Pro Plus, limited Ski Dynamics will still be displayed.
