Installing the Latest Software to Your Descent Transmitter

The Descent™ T1 transmitter and Descent™ T2 transmitter receive software updates through your compatible paired dive watch or for the Descent T2 transmitter through pairing to the Garmin Dive™ app on your smartphone. A paired watch receives available updates for your transmitter from either of these two sources:

Garmin Dive™ App

If your Garmin watch is paired to the Garmin Dive app, it will download software updates automatically behind the scenes while your watch is connected to your mobile phone. There are no steps required for you to take to obtain the latest software. Generally, any released updates will take up to a week to download before automatically or prompting to install on your device. Follow the link below and select your mobile app platform.

Garmin Express™ Software

Garmin Express software provides the ability to check and offer software updates automatically each time you connect your watch to the computer. Follow the installation instructions through the link below.

Updating the Descent Transmitter Software

While a transmitter is updating, it will not go to sleep. 2 minutes after the update has finished the transmitter will enter low power mode. Included below are steps to check your transmitter's software version

Updating Using a Descent Watch with Air Integration

The steps below must be completed outside of a dive, and with the Descent T1 or Descent T2 transmitter in proximity with the paired watch. The steps will need to be performed to update each of your Descent transmitters.

  1. Wake the transmitter from low power mode.

    1. Open the battery cap.

    2. Wait 30 seconds.

    3. Close the battery cap.

  2. On the dive watch, hold UP/MENU.

  3. Select Dive Setup.

  4. Select Air Integration or Dive Network & Air Integration.

  5. Select Transmitters.

  6. Select the paired transmitter.

  7. Wait for the transmitter to connect to your watch. Status should change to Connected.

  8. Select Software Update or Update Available.

  9. Press START.

  10. Select Install Now.

  11. Keep the watch and transmitter in proximity during the update.

The Software Update or Update Available option can take up to a minute to appear while the watch determines the transceiver's software version and battery status. If the battery status is too low, you will need to replace the battery in the transmitter before installing the update.

Updating Using Bluetooth Pairing to the Garmin Dive App

You can update your Descent T2 transmitter by connecting it to the Garmin Dive app on your smartphone. Bluetooth pairing is only active while the transmitter is on but not sensing any pressure readings from a tank. You must depressurize your regulator in order for the transmitter to be able to enter Bluetooth pairing mode. The transmitter will stay in pairing mode for 2 minutes before returning to low power mode. If you have never paired the transmitter to the dive app before you will need to complete a first time pairing following the steps below.

  1. Open the battery cap on the transmitter.

  2. Wait 30 seconds.

  3. Close the battery cap on the transmitter to wake it from low power mode. The transmitter will play a tone.

  4. Scan the QR code on the transmitter using your smartphone's camera.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing and setup process in the Garmin Dive app.

If you do not see a QR code on your transmitter or your phone is unable to read the code, follow the steps below.

  1. Download and open the Garmin Dive app.

  2. Open the battery cap on the transmitter.

  3. Wait 30 seconds.

  4. Close and tighten the battery cap on the transmitter to wake it from low power mode. The transmitter will play a tone.

  5. In the Garmin Dive app, if prompted select Connect a Garmin Device, if not prompted:

    1. Select More in the lower right.

    2. Select Garmin Devices.

    3. Select Add Device.

  6. On the screen showing Scan QR Code select Skip or I don't see a QR code.

  7. Tap Connect It when the transmitter is found.

  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing and setup process.

If the app is unable to find your transmitter, make certain your regulator is depressurized or remove the transmitter from your tank, and try replacing the battery in the transmitter to make certain it has power. Follow the steps for pairing through the Garmin Dive app again.

During subsequent updates, you will need to make sure the transmitter is depressurized, wake the transmitter from low power mode, and open the Garmin Dive app. The transmitter should automatically connect to the app and check for updates.

Force Updating a Transmitter

If your transmitter fails to update using the normal methods, you may need to do the steps below to force the transmitter to update.

Step 1: Remove the Transmitter from the Descent Watch Sensors

  1. On the dive watch, hold UP/MENU.

  2. Select Dive Setup.

  3. Select Air Integration or Dive Network & Air Integration.

  4. Select Transmitters.

  5. Select the Descent T1 transmitter or Descent T2 transmitter.

  6. Select Remove.

  7. Power off the watch.

Step 2: Remove and Replace the Transmitter Battery

Watch this video for steps on removing and changing the battery on your Descent Transmitter. The video demonstrates on a Descent T1 transmitter but the steps are the same on a Descent T2 transmitter. Make sure to use a new battery to rule out any insufficient power problems that could prevent the transmitter from updating.

Removing the Battery from a Descent T1 or T2 Transmitter

  1. Insert a coin or flat screwdriver into the slot Number 1 inside circle, and rotate counter-clockwise to unscrew the battery cap.

If the gaskets appear worn or damaged, you can purchase a replacement battery cap kit, including a cap, gaskets, and silicone grease.

Go to the Descent T1 product page or Descent T2 product page on garmin.com and select the Accessories tab to purchase available kits.

  5. Apply a thin layer of waterproof silicone grease to both gaskets.

  6. Replace the battery cap into the transmitter, and fully tighten it.

Step 3: Pair Your Transmitter with Your Descent Dive Watch Again

  1. Connect the transmitter to an air source.

  2. Power on the Descent watch with air integration.

  3. Pair the transmitter to the Descent watch with air integration.

See: Pairing a Descent Transmitter with a Compatible Descent Dive Computer.
