RADAR Explanation

RADAR is an acronym for Radio Detection And Ranging. This type of device produces electromagnetic waves in a specific spectrum range and then measures not only the time it takes for the signal to be reflected back from an appropriate object, but also determines its bearing relative to your position. Once the time and bearing are measured, these targets or echoes are calculated and displayed on a chartplotter. This will provide information of where other targets are in relation to the boat's position, even when the other boats cannot be seen due to low visibility.
