Do I Need My Phone for My Watch to Acquire GPS?

Garmin® watches compatible with GPS tracking will use one of two different methods to record GPS data while recording an outdoor activity.

Integrated GPS Receiver 

Most Garmin watches have a GPS receiver built-in and do not require your phone to record GPS activities.

Connected GPS

Some Garmin watches do not have a GPS receiver built-in and rely on a phone connection for GPS data. This includes the following watches:
