Communication Settings and Interference on Dog Tracking Handhelds

Comm. IDs Settings for the Astro 220 and 320 or Channel IDs for the Alpha 100, Astro 430, Astro 900 and Pro 550 Plus, allow the devices to talk with multiple dog collars without the collars receiving interference from other collars or devices that are nearby. As there are only certain ranges of frequencies used by these devices, interference is possible if the dog ID's are not set up properly The process of avoiding interference on like model devices, as it is as simple as locating a different Channel or Comm. ID for the collars.

The process gets complicated when dealing with interference caused by different series, IE Alpha 100 with Astro 320. Due to differences in how the two series communicate with their collars, troubleshooting interference must be handled differently than previously when using only the Astro or only the Alpha series device, as they use different communication systems, but the same frequencies.

The Alpha series, Astro 430 and Pro 550 Plus utilize a channel number system that is different from the Astro 220 and Astro 320 series Comm. ID system so the process of moving the Tracking/Training collars to an ID that doesn’t interfere is not as simple as comparing ID numbers with the DC collar and adjusting accordingly.

Note: The Astro 900 will not interfere with the Astro 220, Astro 320, Astro 430, Alpha 100 or the Pro 550 Plus as the system will utilize the 900 MHz channels.

Following the points and charts below will minimize the chances of interference:

Frequency and Equivalent Settings

  • 151.820 MHz - Astro 220, 320 (Communication Settings 0 – 9), Alpha 100, Astro 430 (Channel 1)

Chart Example: Alpha and Astro 430 ID numbers are followed by a Dash Numbers (e.g. 1-0). Since channel 1, dash 2 (1-2) meets Astro 220 and 320 ID's 3 and 8 these Comm ID's cannot be used as they would cause interference. The Alpha or Astro 430 ID will need to be changed to another channel or dash. For example, change the ID to 1-4 or 2-0.

For example, change the Comm. ID to a 1 (01) or 6 (06).
