What is the Reference Point Feature of My Garmin Watch?

Reference Point is a navigation app on Garmin watches that provides a line of sight and bearing to a location. The location can be set as your current location, a compass bearing with a projected waypoint, or a previously saved location.

What Information Is Shown?

  • Cardinal directions

  • Compass dial

  • Heading arrow

  • Direction-of-travel arrow

  • Deviation from current heading to destination in degrees

  • Distance to destination


How to Use Reference Point

  1. Press GPS or START/STOP.

  2. Select Reference Point.

  3. Allow the watch to acquire GPS signal.

  4. Press GPS or START/STOP to add a reference point.

  5. Select Add Point.

  6. Choose from Current Location, Set Bearing or a previously saved location:
    NOTE: Some watches will also have the option to select Point of Interest.


    Current Location

    Your current GPS location will be used as your reference location.


    Set Bearing

    1. Rotate the watch to set the desired compass heading or press UP or DOWN to adjust.

    2. Press GPS or START/STOP to confirm your heading.

    3. Press DOWN to select units of distance.

    4. Press UP to set distance to location.

    5. Press START/STOP to save.


    Saved Location

    1. Scroll down to a saved location.

    2. Press GPS or START/STOP to select.


    Point of Interest

    1. Press GPS or START/STOP to confirm heading.

    2. Select Point of Interest.

    3. Select your desired Point of Interest from the list of available options.

    4. Select Go.
