Syncing data, contacts, Check-In Messages (formerly known as Preset Messages) and quick text messages, and account changes for devices on Professional accounts can be performed by the administrator or sub-users who have been provided a log in email address and password for the Garmin Explore website.
IMPORTANT FOR ADMINISTRATORS: Passwords must be set for sub-users before they can sync assigned devices with the Garmin Explore app. For steps to set user passwords, see the owner's manual.
A GPSMAP 66i, 67i, 86i, or 86sci active on a Professional account can be synced via Bluetooth using the Garmin Explore app on a smartphone using the steps below. These devices can also be synced via microSD card using the File Based Configuration tool or via the Satellite Network using the processes explained in Configuring Garmin Handhelds for a Professional Administrator
Syncing With the Garmin Explore App as Administrator or Sub-User
Before getting started, the Garmin Explore app should be installed from the app store on the smartphone being used to sync. The smartphone should have an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data) to sync account information through the Garmin Explore app. Ensure the handheld is up to date on software. Pairing a GPSMAP 66i/67i/86i/86sci With the Garmin Explore App
Administrator-Assigned Device: Use the administrator email address and password for the inReach Professional account.
User-Assigned Device: Use the email address and password provided by the account administrator.
Select Devices.
Select either Pair Device or + if you already have a Garmin device paired.
Select Add Device.
Select your specific GPSMAP model from the list.
On the GPSMAP handheld, press MENU twice to reach the main menu.
Select Setup.
Select Bluetooth.
Select Pair Mobile Device or Continue.
In the Garmin Explore app, select the GPSMAP handheld and follow the prompts to complete the setup.
The GPSMAP handheld will now be paired with the Garmin Explore app.
Syncing With the Garmin Explore Website and Garmin Explore App
When the Garmin Explore app is opened or refreshed, it automatically syncs between the Garmin Explore website and the paired inReach device when it is powered on. It can take a few moments for both to complete.
However, syncs can also be performed manually with the steps below. Syncing manually can be useful for sharing newly created data or changes between the Garmin Explore app, Garmin Explore website, and inReach device.
Important Notes
Ensure you are signed into the correct account.
The paired mobile device needs a data connection to sync to and from the Garmin Explore website.
To sync to and from the Garmin Explore app, the inReach device needs to be powered on and in range (about 10ft) of the paired mobile device.
Garmin Explore app will update the time of the last sync after the sync has completed.
Administrator Steps to Sync Multiple User-Assigned Devices in the Garmin Explore App
Multiple user-assigned devices can be synced through the Garmin Explore app by the administrator by signing out of the Garmin Explore app, signing in with the email address and password assigned to the sub-user, then pairing and syncing the next device.
Sign Out of the Garmin Explore App
Open the Garmin Explore app.
Touch Account.
Select Sign Out.
After signing out of the Garmin Explore app, follow the steps in the previous section to pair the next device to be synced with the Garmin Explore app using the log in credentials assigned to that device.
