Exporting User Data from BaseCamp Software
User data such as routes, tracks, waypoints (lat/long only) and activities can be exported from the BaseCamp™ program to use with third party software, or to share with others.
The exported files can also be used as an additional backup for the data, or as a way to transfer the data to a different computer.
Export File Types:
- GPS eXchange Format (.gpx)
- Garmin GPS Database Files (.gdb)
- Comma-delimited text (.csv)
- KML 2.2 Document, v2 (.kml)
- Garmin Training Center XML Document (.tcx)
- Tab-delimited text (.txt)
If the data is being exported as a backup or with the intention of reopening it with the BaseCamp program or another Garmin application, the .gpx or .gdb format is recommended.
If there are routes that need to be used with Garmin Explore™ app or website, be sure to convert the routes into tracks in order to preserve the turn by turn detail in the route. For detailed steps, see - BaseCamp (PC): Creating a Track from a Route or BaseCamp (Mac): Creating a Track from a Route.
The other formats are primarily used if the data is being transferred to a third-party software program, such as Google Earth, which uses the .kml file format.
