Replacing the Battery on the Garmin Premium Heart Rate Monitor

Garmin's Premium Heart Rate Monitor comes with a user-replaceable CR2032 lithium coin cell battery.

To Replace the Heart Rate Monitor Battery

  1. Unsnap the module from the strap.

  2. Unscrew the four screws holding down the cover to the back of the module using the appropriate tool.

    • If your heart rate monitor has Phillips head screws, use a Phillips head #0 screwdriver.

    • If your heart rate monitor has Torx screws, use a Torx T5 driver.

    • Partially unscrew all 4 screws evenly, before fully unscrewing each one.

    • If a screw is stripped or difficult to remove, consider placing a rubber band on the tip of the tool to provide better grip.

  3. Remove the cover and battery.

    • Before inserting new battery, wait 30 seconds to allow module to fully discharge.

  4. Insert a new CR2032 battery with positive "+" terminal facing up.

  5. Replace the battery cover and four screws.

IMPORTANT: When replacing the battery, ensure that the red O-ring is in place, the battery cover is installed correctly, and be careful not to overtighten the screws. Installing the battery cover upside down or overtightening the screws can result in damage to the screw holes and compromise the battery compartment if exposed to moisture. If the red O-ring is damaged or is not properly in place, this can also compromise the battery compartment if exposed to moisture.

After you replace the heart rate monitor battery, you may need to pair your heart rate monitor with the device again. Pairing instructions may vary from device to device. Please refer to your owner's manual for pairing instructions. For additional care instructions, see the Caring for the Heart Rate Monitor guide.
