Tips For Pairing Vector/Vector 2 Power Meters With Head Unit

Garmin Vector pedals use ANT+ technology in order to connect with a compatible Garmin device or ANT+ compatible head unit. There are some steps that you can take should you be having difficulty with successfully pairing your Vector pedals with your head unit. This includes:

  • Make sure the batteries in the Vector pedal pods are not discharged. The pedal pods provide power to Vector and are used to transfer communication between Vector and your head unit. If you suspect that the batteries need to be replaced please replace them in pairs with a set of new CR2032 button cell batteries.

  • It is also important that the battery covers are installed correctly and no damage to the contacts is apparent.

  • Ensure that the pins on each Vector pedal pod are not damaged or uneven when compared to the each other. These pins are a critical component of the Vector system. If any of the pins do not make good contact with the Vector pedal you will have an issue with pairing them to your head unit:

  • Confirm that the crankset that you are using is compatible with Garmin Vector. The cranks will need to be the proper thickness and height. The Standard size pedal pods for Vector can work on cranks that are up to 15mm (millimeters) thick and 44mm wide. The Large size pedal pods for Vector can work on cranks that are 15mm - 18mm thick and 44mm wide. Anything thicker or wider may either prevent the pedal pod from connecting correctly with your Vector pedal or damage the connector ribbon on the pod itself.

If the above items are covered and you are still having a pairing problem please try the following steps in order to pair Vector with your head unit.

  • While your head unit is searching for your Vector pedal system spin your cranks backwards during this process. This wakes the system up and allows the system to pair with your head unit.

  • From the Power Sensor Details screen of your head unit manually enter the Sensor ID. The Sensor ID is a 5 digit number that contains no letters and is etched into each Vector pedal spindle.

  • Switch your pedal pods from their current position taking the left pod and installing it on the right and the right pod on the left. The pods are not side specific but if the pod on the right side is the culprit (since the right side of the system is the master side) taking the left pod and putting it on the right side may allow the system to pair. If this is the case you may receive a "Left Sensor Missing" message. This would indicate that the Pedal Pod will need to be replaced. Information for ordering a replacement Pedal Pod can be found on the Vector accessories page.
