inReach 1.1 Firmware Update Release Notes
The version 1.1 firmware update provides inReach® for PN-60w satellite communicators with new features and capabilities.
LED Behavior Changes
Pairing
When the inReach is in pairing mode, the Power LED flashes green twice every second until the devices are paired.
SOS
The SOS LED flashes green once every three seconds when the device is transmitting an SOS message to Garmin Response.
The SOS LED flashes green twice every 1.5 seconds when an SOS message reply has been received by Garmin Response.
When connected to another device, the SOS LED will continue to flash green at this rate until the new message notification on PN-60w or in the Earthmate® app is dismissed, acknowledging the receipt of the message.
In standalone mode, pressing the SOS button for one second dismisses the new message notification on the inReach, acknowledging receipt of the message.
When canceling an SOS, the SOS LED will flash twice every second to show a difference between sending SOS and canceling SOS. The Message LED will also flash once every three seconds to indicate that a cancellation message is being sent to Garmin Response™ Center.
If you have questions about using an SOS in specific scenarios, or have follow-up questions after having triggered an SOS for any reason, contact the Garmin Response℠ Center.
Message LED
The Message LED flashes once every three seconds while an SOS message is being sent. This includes the SOS cancellation message.
The Message LED flashes green twice every 1.5 seconds when a message has been received.
When connected to another device, the Message LED will continue to flash green at this rate until the new message notification on PN-60w or in the Earthmate app is dismissed, acknowledging the receipt of the message.
In standalone mode, pressing the Message button on the inReach dismisses the new message notification.
Battery Profiles
NOTE: If you are not using lithium batteries, you should change the battery profile to ensure battery performance is correctly calculated.
The inReach communicator is optimized to use lithium batteries. If you use alkaline or NiMH batteries or if you switch back to lithium after using alkaline or NiMH batteries, you must change your battery profile to ensure battery performance is correctly calculated.
Press and hold the Power and Message buttons at the same time to cycle the device through the three battery profiles.
You can do this as you power on the inReach or at any time when it is already powered on.
The Power and Message LEDs flash once for lithium, twice for alkaline, and three times for NiMH.
The most recently used profile flashes first. For example, if you have never changed the battery profile, when you press the buttons, the LEDs will flash once.
Continue to press and hold the buttons to advance to the other battery profiles, and release the buttons when you reach the battery profile you want to use.
Use of inReach GPS
The inReach internal GPS will be used for position in outgoing messages when the GPS of the connected device is unavailable.
This position is not transmitted back to the connected device.
Tracking points (both normal and SOS) will not appear on the connected device, but these points will be sent to inReach.garmin.com.
Text messages will not be indicated with the location icon, even though a position is associated with them.
If display of location for messages and tracking points is desired on the connected device, GPS must be enabled.
Iridium Network Registration
On initial power-on, or if the inReach has moved more than 150km from the last position, the unit will register its location with Iridium.
