Transfer User Data To and From the Garmin Explore Website
With the Library, Collections, and Primary Collection features on the Garmin Explore™ website, you can choose what data to transfer and receive from Garmin inReach® satellite communicators or other compatible Garmin product lines.
This article is split into three parts. Select an option below for more information:
Understanding Library, Collections, and Primary Collection
Library
The Library is a list of all your user data on the Garmin Explore website. Any data created on the website or uploaded from a compatible Garmin product will be stored under Library.
What Consists of User Data
Waypoints - Waypoints are locations you record and store in the device, website, or compatible app.
Routes - A route is a sequence of locations that leads you to your final destination.
Tracks and Activities - A track or activity is a breadcrumb trail of your adventures or can be created when it is necessary to travel on a very specific path to reach the desired destination.
Activities are created by syncing activities from compatible Garmin devices with the Garmin Explore app.
Courses - A course allows for direct path routing between points or calculated routing to follow available roads and trails. Courses can be synced from a compatible Garmin device with the Garmin Explore app.
NOTE: inReach devices compatible with the Garmin Explore™ app cannot sync the entire Library and must use specific collections. For a list of compatible Garmin Explore app devices, see - Devices Compatible With the Garmin Explore App.
Collections
Collections are lists of data that can store selected user data from the Library, allowing for a less cluttered map, trip planning, or showing specific data on the MapShare™ trip tracking page. Collections also allow for syncing only some user data to compatible devices or even using a Primary Collection to receive data in a desired collection.
For new customers, the default setting will be to sync everything in your Library when you pair a new device. However, Primary Collections can be used to control where new data is transferred to in the Library's Collections from compatible Garmin devices when syncing from the Earthmate app, Garmin Explore app, or inReach Sync. Data transferred to a Collection from a Primary Collection will still appear within the Library.
Selecting Items to Be Synced and Setting a Primary Collection
Selecting a Collection to be synced will ensure that you are only transferring the data you want the next time you sync. You can set a Collection to be synced by selecting from the Map page. Alternatively, you can easily select a collection to be synced from Plans & Devices.
You may also want to set a Primary Collection which takes data recorded from the device and automatically imports it into that collection next time you sync.
Syncing to Your Device, Earthmate® App, or Garmin Explore App
The Earthmate app and Garmin Explore app, your inReach or compatible Garmin device, and your Garmin Explore website account all work together for you to access your user data while in the field.
IMPORTANT: Sync your device and app before going into the field. Always verify that the data you want is in the app and on your device before you set out on your adventure.
A data connection is required when syncing with compatible apps on your phone.

Garmin Explore App
There are several scenarios that will prompt the Garmin Explore app to sync automatically. For instance, when the app is opened or refreshed it will automatically sync.
However, syncs can also be performed manually which is useful for sharing newly created data between the Garmin Explore app, the Garmin Explore website, and compatible Garmin devices.
