Checking the Amount of Free Space on an Automotive Device or Memory Card

The amount of free space remaining on the device or on an inserted microSD card can be viewed using Garmin Express™ software. 

Note: Files should not be deleted from the device to make space or moved from the device to an SD card.  Doing this can make a device unusable. 

To View the Amount of Available Free Space on an Automotive Device or SD Card:

1. Connect your Garmin device to the computer with a USB cable.

2. Open Garmin Express. If you do not have Garmin Express, follow steps in  How Do I Install Garmin Express? 

3. Select your device, or click Add a Device and follow the on-screen prompts to add a new device.

4. Click on Tools & Content.

5. Click on the Utilities tab

6. Your free space will be listed in the Device Storage section. You may have to scroll down to see it.

If the device storage is green or yellow, then you have plenty of space for normal operation.

If it is red, an optional microSD or SD card can be used to extend the external storage space for additional maps, music, pictures, and custom points of interest (POI) files for compatible devices.
