Failed to Read Server Response Error When Using inReach Sync
When syncing an inReach® device via the inReach Sync desktop app, you may encounter the following error if there is an underlying issue with the network connection:
Failed to Read Server Response
inReach Sync is not intended to be used with mobile broadband (such as MiFi, AirCard, or cell phone tethering), satellite, fixed wireless, or dial-up Internet connections. If applicable, disable any VPN (Virtual Private Network) that is in use. If this is not possible, use a different computer and/or network connection.
If you continue to receive the error message, uninstall inReach Sync and its associated files with the instructions below, then download the program again from the Plans & Devices tab under the Sync & Update button of the Garmin Explore™ website.
Uninstalling inReach Sync and Its Associated Files
Follow the steps below for your operating system.
Windows
Windows Vista/7
Click on Start.
Select Control Panel.
Select Uninstalla program.
Find the application called inReach Sync.
Select Uninstall.
Delete any .exe files for inReach Sync from your Downloads folder.
Restart the computer.
Windows 8.1
Right-click on the Start menu.
Select Apps & Features.
Find the application called inReach Sync.
Select Uninstall.
Delete any .exe files for inReach Sync from your Downloads folder.
Restart the computer.
Windows 10
Select Start.
Find the application called inReach Sync.
Right-click (or press and hold) on inReach Sync, then select Uninstall.
Delete any .exe files for inReach Sync from your Downloads folder.
Restart the computer.
Windows 11
Select Start.
Select All Apps.
Find the application called inReach Sync.
Right-click (or press and hold) on inReach Sync, then select Uninstall.
Delete any .exe files for inReach Sync from your Downloads folder.
Restart the computer.
Mac
Open the Finder.
In the Go menu select Applications.
Find inReach Sync.
Click and drag inReach Sync to the Trash.
Delete any .dmg files for inReach Sync from your Downloads folder.
Empty the Trash.
Restart the computer. IMPORTANT: This must be completed before the next step.
NOTE: Either Windows or Mac link can be used as they will download the same file.
If you encounter an error while installing inReach Sync, uninstall any older versions of the Sync application, then try again.
Locate the download on your computer and open it.
Google Chrome Instructions
If prompted, choose where you want to save the file, then click Save.
When the download finishes, you will see it at the bottom of your Chrome window. Click the file name to open it.
Mozilla Firefox Instructions
When prompted, click Save File.
When the download finishes, the down arrow on your toolbar will appear blue . Click the down arrow, then click the file name to open it.
Microsoft Edge Instructions
When the downloaded finishes, it should display under the down arrow on your toolbar. Click the file name to open it. NOTE: If you do not see this, select ••• in the top right, then Downloads.
Follow onscreen prompts to complete installation.
Using inReach Sync for Windows
Plug the inReach into the computer with the Garmin cable.
Launch inReach Sync from the computer.
Login when requested. Use the same email and password the device is associated with.
inReach Sync will automatically detect your inReach and begin syncing.
Close inReach Sync when the sync completes.

Installing inReach Sync for Mac
NOTE: inReach Sync for Mac is intended for Intel-based Mac computers. For Mac computers that use Apple silicon, installing Rosetta may enable the computer to use inReach Sync. For more details, see - Apple Support: If you need to install Rosetta on your Mac.
