Understanding a Garmin eLog RODS Report in HTML Format
The RODS (Record of Duty Status) report from a Garmin eLog™ Compliant ELD can be exported in .html format for viewing on a computer. See How do I Submit Duty of Status Records to my Motor Carrier from a Garmin eLog ELD? (Exporting a RODS Report) for instructions.
The RODS report will display a graph grid report for each day selected along with a list of duty status entries organized by time.

The time of day will be displayed across the top of the Graph Grid report. This shows the schedule and elapsed time of each duty status.
- Midnight is represented by the letter "M"
- Noon is represented by the letter "N"
Each duty status and elapsed time is displayed beneath the time of day.
- Off Duty time is displayed in the first row
- Sleeper Berth time is displayed in the second row
- Driving time is displayed in the third row
- On Duty (not driving) time is displayed in the fourth row
The far-right column shows the 24 hour day with each row displaying elapsed time in the duty status.
Each day includes an overview section for the RODS report. Here is a breakdown of some terms you may see and what they mean.
- Odometer - Odometer reading transmitted from the vehicle's Electronic Control Module (ECM)
- Separate from the engine hours
- Starts when the vehicle powers up, displaying the current overall reading of the odometer
- As you drive it will start breaking down into the miles driven
- It will begin with a new odometer reading when powered up the next time
- Engine Hours - The elapsed time the Garmin eLog™ App has recorded the engine running within a 24 hour period
- Event Type - The type of event which took place
- Can be a variety of things including anything the ELD records. such as powering up and any malfunctions
- Includes anything the driver did in regards to the Garmin eLog App and ELD (not a status change or entry)
- Logging in is an event type example
- Event Status - The Garmin eLog App status
- Includes On Duty, Sleeper Berth, etc. for duty status entries
- Origin - Displays the source of the recorded data entry
- Auto recording: Garmin eLog app recorded it without user input
- Driver: Driver manually made a change
- Intermediate: Garmin eLog app automatically confirmed event status after one hour of driving without a duty status change
