Limited Character Space for User Data Names on Previous GPSMAP Chartplotters
NOTE: HomePort™ trip planning software is discontinued. For additional information regarding the discontinuation, see HomePort Application Discontinued
GPSMAP® 4xxx chartplotters | GPSMAP® 5xxx chartplotters | GPSMAP® 6xxx chartplotters | GPSMAP® 7xxx chartplotters have limited space available for names for waypoints, routes, and tracks. Below is a list of how many characters can be used to name each of these:
Waypoint - 10 characters
Route - 15 characters
Saved Track - 20 characters
Any letter, number, space, or special character can be used when naming an item
Use the comments section to provide additional information if the name is too long
Suppose a waypoint, route, or track is created in MapSource® mapping software or HomePort™ trip planning software and sent to the device. In that case, the device will automatically capitalize all of the letters used in the name
Waypoints, routes, or tracks copied over with a duplicated name will have a number added to the end, and the system will sequentially keep increasing that number if more waypoints with the same name are added
Suppose a waypoint, route, or track uses the maximum number of characters for the name, and another waypoint with the same name is copied over. In that case, the last two letters of the new waypoint's name are removed and replaced with a space and number. The number will sequentially increase with the number of items added with the same name
