Garmin Drive App Settings / Variables when Uploading Videos to the Vault
When the Garmin Dash Cam™ Live uploads video to the Vault, the time it takes to do so and the quality (resolution) of the video can vary based on the connection type (Wi-Fi or LTE) and the Garmin Drive™ app settings.
See the different scenarios below:
Vault Uploads (LTE + Wi-Fi) – Incident-based, Saved Video
- In an LTE-only environment (subscription required), such as that used with the Garmin Dash Cam™️ Live, saved video uploads to Vault via cellular LTE service at its lower resolution, using the .GLV file (resolution: 640x360 @ 30fps)
- When later in an approved internet-connected Wi-Fi, the .GLV file previously uploaded to Vault will be replaced by the higher, designated recording resolution (.MP4 file at 1440 or 1080 or 720 @ 30fps)
NOTE: The Save to Phone option in the Vault won't be available until the higher resolution .MP4 file has been uploaded.
Garmin Drive™ App Settings
Allow Remote Access and Vault Storage:
- In the Garmin Drive™ app, tap on Settings (gear icon in the upper right)
- Tap on Vault Access
- When paired devices are connected, toggle ON to :
- Allow remote live view for dash cameras and navigation devices with built-in dash cameras when a pre-approved Wi-Fi connection is available.
- Upload saved video¹ to Vault when a pre-approved Wi-Fi connection is available.
- Temporary video is not uploaded to Vault. For additional information see your device Owner's Manual.
Vault App Uploads for Exported Clips:
- In the Garmin Drive™ app, tap on Settings (gear icon in the upper right)
- Tap on Vault Access
- Under Vault App Uploads, Exported Clips is toggled ON (default setting):
- The exported clips from the Garmin Drive app will be automatically uploaded to Vault using your phone's cellular service.
- If you export a video (Saved or Temporary), the higher resolution file will export, and you can immediately email it, upload it to social media, etc., from your phone.
- When in an approved internet-connected Wi-Fi, this higher resolution file will upload to the Vault.
- NOTE: It is especially important to export video in instances where you have visually seen something you want to keep, because unless it is an incident (Saved), it is considered Temporary and subject to being overwritten.
¹ Saved video includes
- video saved as an incident
- video exported to your smartphone within the connected Garmin Drive app or dēzl app
- video manually saved by button press on the device itself or within the connected Garmin Drive app or dēzl app
- video that is verbally saved by Voice Control
Temporary video is not uploaded to Vault. For additional information see your device Owner's Manual.
