Update Maps and Software on a Kenwood Device

The update process on a Kenwood device requires a USB memory stick or microSD/SD card between 8GB and 32GB. The correct form of media will be prompted during the process.

Device software needs to be updated before performing the map update.

NOTES: Before starting the steps below, see Where to Plug in a USB Flash Drive or SD Card for an Update. Then, follow the steps in the applicable FAQ below:

To Update the Software:

1. Go to https://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/

2. Enter the model name 

  

3. Click Search

  

4. Click the model name below

 

5. Scroll to Firmware Updates

6. Click the link beneath Firmware Updates

  

7. Follow the instructions on the next page to download and install the software updates

The device software will now be up to date.

To Update the Map:

1. Go to http://www.garmin.com/kenwood

2. Click on PURCHASE MAP & TRAFFIC UPDATES

    • NOTE: Select Kenwood models include 3 years of updates at no cost. You will not be prompted to purchase an update if this is included. Refer to your Kenwood system's documentation to determine if updates at no cost are included. 

 

3. Click on Select Region to select your region

4. Click on Select Model to select your model

5. Click on SELECT

6. FIRMWARE UPDATE - Click on GET UPDATE

    • NOTE: If available for your model, this must be done before updating the maps.

 

7. MAP UPDATES - Click on GET UPDATE 

    • Read through and follow the instructions
      • Step 1 and Step 3 for some devices may be incorrect on this page for your Kenwood model.

        • Step 1 - Should be SD or microSD card.

        • Step 3 - Should be Navigation Settings.

          • Some devices require pressing the back button to get back to the Main Menu.

    • NOTE:
      • The microSD/SD memory card must remain in the Kenwood for the maps to displays.

Current Map Versions:

  • Europe GPS Navigators:  2025 as of March 24, 2025.
  • North America GPS Navigators:  2025 as of March 25, 2025.
