Entering Environmental Data on a Garmin Wearable with Applied Ballistics

Entering environmental data into the Applied Ballistics app on your compatible Garmin watch will help with creating a more accurate shooting solution. The data fields can only be changed directly on the watch or with a compatible weather meter using the auto update feature.

Editing the Environment

  1. From the Applied Ballistics app, press START.
NOTE: For Instinct® 2X Solar - Tactical Edition, press GPS button.
  2. Select Environment.
  3. Select an option to edit.
    • Wind Speed 1 - the wind speed used in the shooting solution.
    • Wind Speed 2 - an optional, additional wind speed used in the shooting solution.
NOTE: The Wind Speed 2 field is optional. Using both Wind Speed 1 and Wind Speed 2 is not an effective way to account for different wind speeds at different distances between you and the target. Using these fields is a way to bracket (isolate) the wind values and calculate minimum and maximum windage values for the solution.
    • Wind Direction - the direction from which the wind is coming. For example, a 9:00 wind blows from your left to your right.
    • Latitude - the horizontal location on the Earth's surface. Negative values are below the equator. Positive values are above the equator. This value is used to calculate vertical and horizontal Coriolis drift.
TIP: You can select the Use Current Position option to use the GPS coordinates from your watch if Auto update is off.
    • Temperature - the temperature at your current location.
    • AMB/STN Pressure - the ambient (station) pressure, not adjusted to represent seal level (barometric) pressure. Ambient pressure is required for the ballistics shooting solution.
    • Humidity - the percentage of moisture in the air.

Enabling Auto Update

You can use the auto update feature to update the latitude and pressure values automatically. When connected to a tempe™ temperature sensor, the temperature value also updates. When connected to a weather meter the wind speed, wind direction, and humidity values also update. The values update every five minutes.

  1. From the Applied Ballistics app, press START.
NOTE: For Instinct® 2X Solar - Tactical Edition, press GPS button.
  2. Select Environment
  3. Select Auto Update to toggle it on.
