Minimum and Maximum Password Length for Wi-Fi Networks
When connecting to a wireless network on your automotive device, the device will accept passwords no less than 8 characters in length. The maximum length is listed below and depends on the type of network.
If your network password is less than 8 characters, you may change your network password to meet this minimum requirement, use a different wireless network, or set up the Wi-Fi network connection manually.
To Manually Connect to a Wi-Fi Network:
1. Touch Settings or the gear icon
2. Touch Wireless Networks or Wi-Fi
3. Under Wi-Fi, touch Search for Networks
4. Touch the Add Network button
NOTE: Hidden networks are not compatible with Wi-Fi updates on some Garmin devices.
5. Enter the SSID for your network, and touch Done
- If you are unsure how to find this, check the documentation for your router.
- The maximum length is 32 characters.
6. Select the Security type for your network, and touch Next
If you are unsure what setting to choose, check your router's network security settings.
WEP - Maximum key length is 16 characters.
WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK - Maximum key length is 63 characters.
7. Enter the password and touch Done.
If the password isn't accepted, it is possible that the setup process timed out. Try entering the password again, all at once.
The device will now be connected to your home Wi-Fi network.
