Barometric Altimeter Settings for the fēnix and fēnix 2
Altering the barometric altimeter settings, Auto Calibration and Barometric Plot, on the device will alter the way pressure and elevation are calculated and reported. The table below shows how the settings affect the readings.
Auto Calibration
Fixed | Variable | |
Altimeter | Elevation is equal to GPS elevation. | Elevation changes with changes in ambient pressure and GPS position. |
Barometer | Barometric pressure changes with changes in ambient pressure and with changes in GPS position. | Barometric pressure changes with changes in ambient pressure and GPS position. |
Barometric Plot
Fixed | Variable | |
Altimeter | Barometric pressure changes with changes in ambient pressure. | Elevation changes with changes in ambient pressure. Calculations use a calibrated pressure. |
Barometer | Calculations use a calibrated altitude that is separate from the calibrated altitude used in elevation calculations. | Barometric pressure changes with changes in ambient pressure, calculations use the calibrated altitude. It is separate from the current elevation value. |
The above table will assist in choosing the appropriate settings.
