Yamaha J1939 to NMEA 2000 Bridging with Garmin Devices

Yamaha engine data uses proprietary PGN sentences. The engine can connect to the Garmin chartplotter J1939 Port, but it is not J1939 data. It is Yamaha data. Garmin cannot act as a data bridge from Yamaha data to NMEA 2000 data.

Options for sending engine data to the chartplotter

The preferred solution is for the user to connect all Garmin chartplotters to the Yamaha Engine Bus, providing direct engine feed from the engine to the Garmin chartplotter. Use the Yamaha Engine Bus to J1939 Adapter Cable

The second option requires the installation of the Yamaha Gateway to the NMEA 2000. Certain functionality might be lost if no NMEA 2000 PGN is equivalent to the Yamaha proprietary data (some examples are Yamaha troll mode, water sports, tow mode, and maintenance flags).
