Message "This dog unit has been worn by a dog already in your list" for the Astro and Alpha

The Alpha®, Astro® 430, and Astro® 900 dog tracking handhelds allow pairing of up to 20 collars or contacts. The Astro® 220 and Astro® 320 handhelds allow pairing of up to 10 collars.

When pairing multiple collars or pair a collar that is already in the dog list, the device may prompt the message, This dog unit has been worn by a dog already in your list. If this message is displayed, it means that the collar is already in the dog list. When pairing multiple collars to the handheld, pair one collar at a time. Once the collar is paired to the handheld, power it off. The pairing process can then be repeated for the next collar.

NOTE: The Alpha 200 handhelds are capable of pairing up to 250 devices, however only 20 can be active at a time. 



Dog Not Showing on Map Page or Dog Compass

Many times, people get into trouble because they have inadvertently selected the menu command called "Stop Tracking" inside the Dog List menus.

  • When this happens, you will stop seeing the dog's name and compass pointer arrow on the Dog Tracking Compass. You will also not see the dog on the map screen.
  • Repairing does not work, because the collar is already paired. It is just deactivated.



Fixing a Collar That Was Accidentally Deactivated

  1. Go to Dog List
  2. Select dog to activate
  3. Select Show Info 
  4. Press Menu
  5. Check for Start Tracking / Stop Tracking

Alpha 100 Dog Tracking Handheld

  1. Go to Dog List
  2. Select dog to activate
  3. Select Show Info 
  4. Press Menu
  5. Check for Start Tracking / Stop Tracking

Alpha 200 Dog Tracking Handheld

  1. Go to Dog List
  2. Select a dog or group to activate
  3. Select Active
