Whoops! This MapShare URL Does Not Exist Error Message
The error message "Whoops! This MapShare URL does not exist" is usually an indication that MapShare™ page has not been set up or shared correctly, or the viewer has some display issues on their end. The information and steps below help to resolve this error.
MapShare Page and Consent Settings
This error usually occurs when the MapShare page setting in the account is turned off. This can be accidental, or due to a lack of consenting to the use of MapShare.
Follow the instructions below to turn on your MapShare page.
Select either LIVETRACK or MAPSHARE, depending on which option you have available.
NOTE: On mobile browsers, select in the top left, then LIVETRACK or MAPSHARE.
If you have LIVETRACK available, you may be presented with a LiveTrack Location Data Agreement after selecting LIVETRACK. Select Cancel or Opt Out to close out of the agreement, then select Switch to MapShare.
If you already have MAPSHARE available, proceed to step 3 after selecting MAPSHARE.
Select View MapShare Consent.
Click the checkbox to consent to the use of MapShare, then select Done.
Ensure MapShare is toggled on. Once toggled on, your MapShare link will be displayed.
NOTE: As of May 25, 2018, opt-in consent was required for enabling MapShare. If you previously had MapShare enabled and choose not to opt in, your MapShare will be deactivated. To enable MapShare, follow the steps above. Once you have opted in to MapShare, you can disable or enable without having to consent again.
Other Causes for the Error
If your MapShare page was already enabled, or enabling does not resolve the issue, review the other possibilities below for the error.
MapShare Link Was Changed, or the Link Was Not Typed or Shared Correctly
The MapShare link for the account is a website address. As with all websites, the address has to be entered correctly or the right link used in order to reach the website.
Make sure the MapShare URL is entered exactly correct.
The MapShare URL may not have been copied and pasted or typed out correctly when it was shared. Check with the inReach user to ensure the URL you have is correct.
The MapShare URL can be changed in the user's online account. If the account is using a new URL, then the old URL will no longer work and instead produce this error. Reach out to the inReach user to obtain the correct URL.
LiveTrack™ Location Sharing Was Enabled
Similar to MapShare, the inReach user has the option of switching to LiveTrack to share their location. This will create a different URL, and the old MapShare URL will no longer work and instead produce this error. Reach out to the inReach user to obtain the correct URL.
Check for Internet Browser Issues
The browser you use to view the MapShare page may be configured in such a way that you only encounter the error when the MapShare URL is entered. Check the following to rule out as much as possible.
Verify that the URL does not have additional text, and that the URL is not automatically changing after entering it.
If you click on a MapShare link you received and you get this or another error, copy and paste the link into your browser search field instead.
Open a Private or Incognito window in your internet browser before entering the MapShare URL.
If logged in to your own Garmin Explore™ account, you may experience this error when viewing a MapShare page, whether it is yours or someone else's. Log out of your account prior to opening a MapShare URL.
