Garmin Express Fails to Complete the "Copying Files" Stage
During the "Copying Files" stage of a content installation, Garmin Express is writing the content to the internal storage of the device or to an SD card. Device connectivity issues or hardware problems can prevent Garmin Express from installing the content. Symptoms of these issues include:
- There was an error installing the update error message
- There was an error installing the content error message
If any issues, including those listed above, occur during the "downloading files" stage of the update, please see Garmin Express not Working for Updates and Downloads.
Ensure That You Are Using the Latest Version of Garmin Express
To check for updates, see Updating the Garmin Express Application Software.
- Attach the device with a different USB cable
- Attach the device to a different USB port on the computer
- If the computer is a laptop, ensure the computer is connected to a power source
- If using an SD card, try formatting the SD card or try using a different SD card if one is available
- Check a Garmin Mass Storage Device for Errors
- Restart the computer
These steps should resolve the issues that prevent content from installing in Garmin Express.
Ensure Your Device Has Enough Free Space
An error message may happen as a result of there not being enough free space on the internal storage of the device to hold the map updates.
- It is recommended to move the maps to an SD card or select a smaller region of mapping to make more room on the device. See Using the Manage Maps Feature in Garmin Express for a Garmin Automotive Device or Managing Maps with the Montana 700 Series.
- To check the available space on your device, see Checking the Amount of Free Space on an Automotive Device or Memory Card or Managing Storage Space on Your Garmin Outdoor or Marine Handheld.
