eTrex 10, 20(x), 22x, 30(x), 32x Not Recognized by the Computer
Mass storage handhelds like the eTrex® 10, 20, 20x, 22x, 30, 30x, and 32x typically appear as a drive when connected to your computer, allowing easy access to data on the handheld regardless of the operating system. Occasionally, the handheld may not appear as a drive. To troubleshoot an outdoor USB mass storage handheld that is not being recognized by the computer the following steps can be performed.
If the device is not recognized as a drive:
Ensure the device interface option is set to Mass Storage Mode1
Answer Yes to any prompt to enter Mass Storage Mode
If the handheld is still not recognized after one minute, the steps below will be necessary.
Ensure the device battery is fully charged.
Disconnect the device from the computer.
Power off the device.
Press and hold the Thumbstick in the Up position.
Plug the device into the computer.
Wait until the device is recognized by the computer.
It may take up to 30 seconds for the device to be recognized as a drive.
If prompted, install USB device drivers.
Release the Thumbstick.
Backup the device using the Garmin BaseCamp™ program.
Right-click on the device drive.
Click Eject.
Disconnect the device from the computer.
If required, insert batteries into the device.
Power on the device.
Your device should now function normally.
