During The Ride

Updates to the GroupRide provide a more dynamic, competitive-in-spirit experience for riders with an Edge 1050.

Climb Competitions

Riders in the GroupRide will be able to compete against other riders on climbs. A live leaderboard in addition to final leaderboard shown on Garmin Connect after the ride is complete. Once all riders have completed the climb, a finalized leaderboard is presented. Until then, current standings are shown.

After the GroupRide

After a GroupRide, Edge 1050 users will see a variety of different available awards granted to participants. Awards will automatically be selected based on the data available. Award categories will be automatically rotated to prevent repetition.

Available Without Sensors

  • Chatterbox: Most Heavily Using the GroupRide Messaging Feature

    • The total number of Group Ride messages sent. The rider with the highest number will be eligible to win the award if it exceeds the other riders by a significant amount. 

  • Climb Pro: Best Climb Score

    • This will be calculated by calculating the VAM value for each categorized climb (ascent / time), and then averaging those values at the end of the ride.

  • Fashionably Late: Last to arrive at the ride

    • The user's starting time on the ride (time the activity starts) is significantly later than other riders in the group.

  • Overachiever: Highest total distance

    • The total distance the user covers while they are in the GroupRide. If they exceed the next highest distance by more than 5%, they will be eligible for this award.

  • Speed Racer: Highest max speed

    • The highest value in the GroupRide can be eligible for this award.

  • Uncontested Champ: Only Rider Participating

    • This is awarded if there is only a single rider in the GroupRide who elected to participate in competitions.

  • Wanderlust: Most time off course

    • Time will be counted any time the user goes off course after joining the course for the first time. Time will stop accumulating when the user rejoins the course. Time prior to joining and after completing the course will not be counted, because it goes against the spirit of the award (for example, a user that rides from their house to join the start of the course) The rider with the highest amount of off-course time will be eligible to win the award if it exceeds the other riders by a significant amount.

  • Anti-Gravity: Most Jumps

    • The user with the most amount of jumps can be eligible. This can be awarded even if only one rider completed a jump.

  • Flight-Captain: Longest Jump

    • The user with the longest jump can be eligible. This can be awarded even if only one rider completed a jump.

  • Flow Rider: Lowest Flow Score

    • The user with the lowest flow score can be eligible.

  • Super Fly: Best Jump Hangtime

    • The user with the best jump hangtime can be eligible. This can be awarded even if only one rider completed a jump.

Available With a Power Meter

  • All Powerful: Highest Max Power

    • The user with the highest maximum power value will be eligible to win the award.

  • Lean and Mean: Highest Watts/kg Average

    • The user with the highest watts/kg average will be eligible to win the award.

  • More in the Tank: Highest Stamina Potential Remaining

    • The user with the highest last reported Stamina Remaining value will be eligible to win the award.

  • Most Upstanding: Most Time Standing

    • The user with the highest amount of time standing will be eligible to win the award.

  • Running on Empty: Lowest Stamina Potential Remaining 

    • The user with the lowest last reported Stamina Remaining value will be eligible to win the award.

Available With Heart Rate Monitor

  • Biggest Effort: Highest Average Heart Rate as % Max Heart Rate

    • The user with the highest average HR as a percent of max HR will be eligible to win the award.

  • Heart Rate Hustler: Highest Amount of Time in Heart Rate Zone 5

    • The user with the most time in heart rate zone 5 will be eligible to win the award.

  • More in the Tank: Highest Stamina Potential Remaining

    • The user with the highest last reported Stamina Remaining value will be eligible to win the award.

  • Running on Empty: Lowest Stamina Potential Remaining 

    • The user with the lowest last reported Stamina Remaining value will be eligible to win the award.

Available with Cadence Sensor

  • Roller Coaster: Most Time Spent Coasting

    • The user with the highest moving but not pedaling time will be eligible to win the award.

  • Tap Dancer: Highest Average Cadence

    • The user with the highest average cadence will be eligible to win the award.

  • Worker Bee: Most Time Spent Pedaling

    • The user with the highest moving and pedaling time will be eligible to win the award.

Enable Competitions

The GroupRide creator can enable or disable competitions for the ride during the creation of the GroupRide:

If a GroupRide has competitions enabled and you do not want to participate, or you want to make sure it is enabled:

  1. Select the GroupRide Glance.
  2. Select Three black dots stacked vertically .
  3. Disable or enable.
