Traveling to Another Country with a Tread Device

The following links can help you get started if you plan to travel to a foreign country with your Tread® GPS navigator.

See Using the Manage Maps Feature in Garmin Express for the Tread for available mapping.

NOTE: Mapping is available for download in Garmin Express™ software.  It is not necessary to purchase maps through the Garmin Website.

Verifying Maps Installed on the Tread:

Tip: After verifying a map region has been installed to the device, it helps to simulate a route in the region to make sure the map works and to become familiar with finding locations in the region before your trip. When searching for a location with an Anglicized name, use the local spellings of cities and street names rather than the Anglicized name, e.g. ‘Firenze’ instead of Florence or ‘Korinthos’ instead of Corinth.

To Find Locations and Simulate Routes:

You can save the locations you plan to visit before you start your trip to save some time during your travels.

The device may need some time to acquire satellites after arriving if traveling overseas or flying to the area where you plan to travel.

To Acquire Satellites:

  1. Turn the device on and remain stationary in an area with a clear view of the sky

  2. Allow 3 to 5 minutes for the device to acquire satellites.

    • It may be helpful to connect the device to power during this time to prevent it from entering “sleep” mode.

The Tread device will automatically use the correct map when it has acquired satellites. See the following FAQs for more information about this.
