Troubleshooting an Approach G3 or G5 frozen on the Garmin screen

Corrupted files within the Approach G3 or G5 can cause the device to freeze on the black Garmin screen.

To unfreeze the Approach:

  1. Download and save attached file to computer
  2. Open and extract files
  3. Drag and drop .RGN file into .EXE file
  4. Power off Approach
  5. Press and hold Power button and plug device into computer via USB
  6. Choose radio button when device name appears next to USB Device
  7. Click Next
  8. Unplug Approach when file transfer is complete
  9. Power on Approach

The device will begin to update automatically. When the update is complete, the Approach will be recovered and ready for use.

NOTE: The above instructions can only be performed on a Windows computer. Executable files can not be performed on Macs.
