How to Update the Automotive Maps on my aera 5XX Using Garmin Express

Due to the increase in the amount of data for automotive maps, aera® 5XX portable aviation devices can no longer accept all data for North America due to its limited storage capacity.  In this case, the user must select specific regions of the country in which they are traveling.

Before Staring the Update Procedure, Ensure you Have the Following:

• A Windows computer that can connect to and detect the aera portable device.
• Garmin Express installed on the computer.
• BaseCamp™ trip-planning software installed on the computer.

• Data cable to connect the aera 5XX device to your computer.

Use the Following Steps to Update the Automotive Maps on an aera 5XX device: 

1. Open Garmin Express and click on the device that you wish to update.

2. Click on View Details.

3. Select Installation Options.

4. Select Computer Only.

5. Select Install All.

6. Wait for the download to complete.
7. Once the downloads have been completed, open the Garmin BaseCamp program.
8. Make sure the device that you wish to update is turned on and plugged into your computer.
9. Inside of the BaseCamp program, click on Install Maps. This will open the Map Install program. 

10. Click on the Find Device button located inside the Install Maps program. When your device is detected, it will be listed next to the field labeled Device. After your device has been detected, click on the Continue button. 

11. The next screen will show a map of North America. On this map, you can click on the states & provinces of the map whose information that you would like to install on your device. To navigate on the map of North America, be sure to use the Pan arrows, as well as the zoom slider located on the left side of the window. Finally, notice the green bar located on the bottom of the window, indicating how much memory you have remaining on your device. Once you have selected all of the areas that you would like to install, click on the continue button on the bottom right of the window.

12. Next will be a listing of the Installed Maps you are about to load into your portable device. Click on the Install button located on the bottom right of the window.
13. Finally, a message will appear stating that the data was successfully transferred. Click the Finish button located on the bottom right of the window.  Your aera 5XX automotive maps are now updated.

How To see the Updated Map Information on the aera 5XX:

1. Disconnect the aera 5XX from your computer and apply power. 
2. Select Tools once the aera 5XX is powered on.
   
3. select the Automotive Icon to enter automotive mode. 
4. Select Tools once in automotive mode.
5. Select Settings.
6. Select Map.
7. Select Map Info
8. From here, you should see the updated map information.
