My Garmin Watch Is No Longer Displaying Heart Rate Information

If your watch is no longer displaying your heart rate, there are a few things you can check.

Is the Heart Rate Glance Displayed on Your Watch?

If the heart rate glance (previously known as a widget) is missing from your watch, you will need to enable it. Refer to your owner's manual for specific instructions on enabling glances.

Is the Heart Rate Sensor Turned Off?

Newer watches will show "Disabled" in the heart rate glance. Heart next to heart rate setting disabled indication

Selecting this glance should give you the option to enable the Heart Rate sensor.

Enable heart rate sensor request with red X in the bottom left and green check in the top right

Older watches will display a greyed-out heart with a slash through it if the sensor has been disabled. This setting is typically found in the heart rate glance's settings on the watch; refer to your owner's manual for instructions on accessing the options (e.g., on, off, during activity only, auto, etc.) for your specific watch.

Is the Heart Rate Sensor On but Not Providing a Heart Rate?

Red solid heart above two dashes

If the heart rate sensor is on and the sensor lights are flashing but your heart rate glance shows dashes instead of a value, there may be an issue with proper fit. To check for proper fit of the watch as well as other factors which may affect heart rate readings, see The Heart Rate Sensor on My Watch Is Not Accurate.

If the lights on the back of the watch are not on when wearing the watch, it may be helpful to restart the watch. This will often reset the sensor and restore its function. For steps on restarting your watch, see How Do I Restart My Garmin Device?.

Battery Saver Is Enabled

The Battery Saver feature on compatible watches is designed to prolong battery life by turning off certain features, such as the optical heart rate sensor. For more information on Battery Saver, and for steps on how to enable, disable, or customize it, see How to Use Power Manager on Garmin Watches.
