Two-Way Radio Range of Rino Series Handhelds
The maximum distance at which Rino series handhelds can communicate will depend on the power level they are set to transmit at and the environment they are being used in. Obstructions and/or electrical interference in the environment may reduce the communication range.
Maximum Range Estimates
NOTE: Range estimates are based on clear line of sight. Natural and man-made obstructions such as trees, hills, and buildings can cause some loss of signal, resulting in reduced maximum range.
- 1/2 Watt - Up to 2 Miles or 3.2 kilometers

GMRS and FCC Licensing Information
The Rino® 2-way radio operates on General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States. Operation on the GMRS frequencies is subject to rules as specified in 47 C.F.R. Part 95. In order to transmit on GMRS frequencies, you are required to obtain a license from the FCC.
You can obtain a license from the FCC by registering and applying online through their Universal Licensing System. For instructions, refer to the following FCC support articles:

For more information on GMRS, FCC forms, and fees, go to the FCC web page at www.fcc.gov/general-mobile-radio-service-gmrs.
No license is required to operate on GMRS channels in Canada; however, GMRS repeater channels are not approved for use by the Canadian government. GMRS repeater locations in the US can be determined with an internet search.
For use in countries outside of the United States and Canada, check with that government for any restrictions of GMRS use.
