Troubleshooting Radar Features of the Approach G80
The Approach G80 uses a radar to determine club head speed, ball speed, swing tempo and carry distance. Ball spin, launch angle, ball directions, club face angle and club path angle are not measured by the Approach G80.
Radar Information and Limitations
- The radar is on the bottom of the Approach G80
- The radar cannot tell which club is being used
- The radar is not able to register the launch angle of the ball
- The radar cannot detect golf balls designed for practice shots, a real golf ball must be used
- Elevation is taken into account for distance
- Missing a ball when using the radar may be read as practice shot, and may display club head speed and swing tempo
- The Approach G80 will only measure shots of 50 yards or more
- The Approach G80 does not measure putts
- Club head speed accuracy: +/- 5 mph
- Ball speed accuracy: +/- 2 mph
- Swing tempo accuracy: +/- 0.3
- Carry distance accuracy: +/- 5 yards
- Minimum ball or club speed: 20 mph
- Maximum ball or club speed: 265 mph
A TruSwing is not required for using the Approach G80 radar.
Troubleshooting
If you are not getting accurate readings from the Approach G80, make adjustments based on the information below.
- Use a regulation golf ball. The Approach G80 will not detect practice balls.
- Without a golf ball, the Approach G80 will only register club head speed, and swing tempo.1
- Place the Approach G80 within 1 foot of the ball.
- Make sure the bottom of the Approach G80 is facing the ball. Having the Approach G80 rest on a golf ball does not interrupt the radar.
- Ensure the Approach G80 is placed correctly. It should be on the same plane as you and the ball.
- Take your practice swings away from the field of view of the radar.
- Ensure that only the ball, club, and you are in the field of view of the radar.
- Try adjusting ball roll for more accurate distance.
- Make sure the Approach G80 is up to date by syncing with Garmin Express.
- Picking up the Approach G80 will turn off the radar.
- Disconnect the Approach G80 from any charging source while using. Charging while using will cause interference.
- Remember that distance accuracy will change with elevation. The higher in elevation you are, the further the ball will carry.
1 The Approach G80's software must be up to date to use this feature.
