Tracks Not Showing in MapShare or Garmin Explore Website

NOTE: MapShare™ pages are meant for a periodic check on the user, and not meant to be left open indefinitely. With that in mind, the error "Lost Connection to Server. Retrying" may appear if the page is unable to update automatically. If this occurs, refresh the page manually through the browser to show the most recent data. If you are accessing your own account, make sure you do not have the Garmin Explore™ website map page and your MapShare page open at the same time as this may prevent tracks or other items from displaying correctly.

MapShare trip sharing and the Garmin Explore website can display tracks uploaded by an active inReach® satellite communication device. If you are not seeing tracks when you visit these pages, then they may be hidden.

There are filters and toggles which allow viewers to limit the amount of data so the map's detail is easier to see.

Adjusting one or more of these filters and toggles with the steps below will allow all data to be visible. For an overview of the map page, see Related.

IMPORTANT: Date and time stamps will be displayed using the time zone your computer or mobile device is set to, which may differ from date and time provided by the handheld device.


Adjusting Map Filters and Toggles Using a Desktop Browser

MapShare allows for either viewing the most recent track or all tracks. Additional filter options are available in both the Garmin Explore website map page and the desktop version of MapShare.

Viewing Most Recent or All Tracks on MapShare

  • Touch View All Tracks in the upper right corner to view all tracks.

  • Touch View Recent Tracks in the upper right corner to view only the most recent track.

Clearing Map Filters

  1. Click Map Filters (On) from the top of the left-hand panel.

  2. Select Clear Filters.

Once this is done, it should say Map Filters (Off).

Toggling Track Visibility

  1. Select Target with black circle to center the map.

    • This centers the map over the most recent track created by the device to MapShare, the most recently imported track to the account, or the most recent message sent that included location.
  2. Select Plus sign in a circle so that the track expands.

Last Synced Location on the Explore Website Map Tab

Once this is done, the icon should now be Minus sign in a circle.

Toggling Item Visibility

  1. Locate the latest Track, Library, and/or Collection.

  2. Select An eye with a line through it so that the track appears on the map.

Once this is done, the icon should now be An eye with no slash through it.

The Unorganized category is where new data that has not been assigned to a collection appears. Tracks may be in this category and others simultaneously. Toggle the visibility for this category if the track remains hidden.

Adjusting Map Filters and Toggles Using a Mobile Browser

The mobile version of MapShare allows for either viewing the most recent track or all tracks. Additional filter options are available in the Garmin Explore website map page and the desktop version of MapShare.

Viewing Most Recent or All Tracks on MapShare

  • Touch View All in the upper right corner to view all tracks.

  • Touch View Recent in the upper right corner to view only the most recent track.

Switching to Desktop Version of MapShare

  1. Touch MapShare Mobile Version I Icon in the lower right corner.

  2. Touch View Desktop Version.

The MapShare page will now switch to the desktop version and additional map filter options will be available. Steps for adjusting filters and toggles after switching to the desktop version are listed below.

Clearing Map Filters

  1. Touch Map Filters (On) from the top of the left-hand panel.

    NOTE: If you do not see this option, touch MapShare Mobile Open Library Icon from the left-center of the screen to open the side panel.

  2. Touch Clear Filters.

    NOTE: Once this is done, it should say Map Filters (Off).

  3. Touch MapShare Mobile Close Library Icon to close the side panel when finished.

Toggling Track Visibility

  1. Touch Target with black circle to center the map.
