Map Data Sources and Accuracy
Navionics® information comes from multiple public and private sources, including government and Hydrographic Office charts, our own survey data, as well as community sonar logs. Navionics provides acknowledgement of third party notices and copyright licenses at https://www.garmin.com/legal/marine-cartography-disclaimer/.
Navionics charts are an aid to navigation designed to facilitate the use of authorized government charts, not to replace them. Only official government charts and notices to mariners contain all information needed for the safety of navigation and, as always, the captain is responsible for their prudent use.
Every effort is made by Navionics to provide a quality product with accurate chart information. Use of satellite imagery for coastline updates and tolerance tables for object placement are used; however, the accuracy of the data is going to be based on the map source used for the specific area. Add to this the standard accuracy of current GPS systems, which can be up to 2.0 meters. [Unattributed (03 MAR 2022) GPS Accuracy. Navionics chart details can been found in our chart viewer at https://maps.garmin.com/marine, including our SonarChart™/Fishing chart HD bathymetric layer, which is available for most areas of the world.
