Differences Between inReach Weather and Active Weather on the GPSMAP 66i/67i/86i/86sci and Montana 700i/710i/750i/760i

The GPSMAP® 66i, 67i, 86i, and 86sci handhelds and Montana® 700i, 710i, 750i, and 760i handhelds have two weather apps: inReach Weather and Active Weather (provided by Metroblue).

Variations in the weather reports between these apps are expected. You can find the differences below.

inReach Weather

  • A basic report is for every other hour for a 24 hour period, then daily summaries for the next 3 days.1

  • Uses the Iridium satellite network to provide forecasts; does not require a cellular data connection.

  • Requires the user to request a forecast update.

  • All types of inReach weather requests have the same cost of 1 text message against your plan per request.

Active Weather

  • Forecast data is shown at an hourly rate.

  • Requires a Wi-Fi connection or a cellular data connection while connected to the Garmin Connect™ app or Garmin Explore™ app.

  • Updates every 20 minutes.

  • Free, unless there is a charge for the data connection.

1 Premium and Marine forecasts have different/additional forecast data. For more information, see - Frequently Asked Questions on Weather for inReach.
