Software Updates for Alpha LTE Collar

The Alpha® LTE collars can have their software updated via the Alpha® app or Garmin Express™ software. The simplest method is to let the Alpha app provide the software update automatically to the Alpha LTE collar. You can also initiate this manually through the Alpha app if an update is available and has not yet been sent to the collar. You can check the software status of the Alpha LTE collar from the Alpha app. You can also manually update the software on the collar using the Garmin Express software.

Updating Software Using Alpha LTE App

To update the collar using the Garmin Alpha app follow these instructions:

1. In the Alpha app, select Devices
2. Select the Alpha LTE collar
3. Select Software Update
4. Follow the instructions listed for Update with Garmin Alpha

Updating Your Garmin Collar with Garmin Express

1. Garmin Express must be installed on the computer first. If Garmin Express is already installed, skip this step

    

2. Connect the collar to the computer with the appropriate USB cable, avoiding the use of any splitters. 

   NOTE: Some newer Mac computers may have only USB-C ports, which would require an adapter. Apple has a helpful support article that explains different USB types, how to identify them, and what adapters can be used: About USB on Mac Computers.

4. Garmin Express will be launched during the installation process. If Garmin Express is already installed, launch Garmin Express .

   • Windows: Either double-click the Garmin Express icon in the system tray (next to the time), double-click the shortcut on the desktop, or search for Garmin Express in the Start menu.

   • Mac: Garmin Express can be found in the Applications folder in Finder.

5. Select the desired Garmin product, or click Add a Device and follow the on-screen prompts if your device is not listed.

   

6. Garmin Express will display the available updates. Click Install or Install All to install all of the updates.

   

7. Review the Terms and Conditions and click Accept to proceed.

   

8. Review the important notes before continuing to ensure the software update installs smoothly. Click Continue.

   

9. Once the update starts, Garmin Express will display the current progress.

   TIP: Hover your mouse cursor over the progress bar for detailed progress information.

   

10. You will see an Updates complete! message when the update is finished.

    

11. Once complete, disconnect the collar from the computer and power it on to make sure the software updates install successfully.
