Google Maps Issue Causing the Android Garmin Connect App to Crash
An issue with Google maps is resulting in some Android users experiencing an unexpected crash within the Garmin Connect app which uses Google maps within saved GPS activities. Google has corrected this issue however it will require you to clear the cache and data from your affected app.

NOTE: The following steps will sign you out of your app. You will need your log in credentials to sign back in. You will not lose any fitness or wellness data following these steps.
Step 1: Clear Cache and Data from the app
The following steps cover most Samsung phones. If your phone does not align with these steps consult your phone manufacturer for specific instructions.
Access the settings of your phone
From Settings select Apps
Select the Connect app
Select Storage
Select Clear cache
Select Clear data (Acknowledge pop up message if one is displayed)
- Sign back into the app
Step 2: Set up app permissions for the app
Clearing of data will wipe any previously granted app permissions. Enabling all app permissions provides the best user experience with your Garmin device and your phone. For details on what each permission is used for see: Android App Permissions for the Garmin Connect App
Access the settings of your phone
From Settings select Apps
Select the Connect app
Select Permissions
- Enable each permission

Once complete you should not have any issues with the app crashing.
