How Does the MTB Dynamics Feature Work on an Edge Device?

MTB (Mountain Bike) dynamics consist of 3 types of data: Jump Metrics, Grit, and Flow, that are automatically enabled when you are using one of the Mountain Bike activity profiles on a compatible Edge® cycling computer.

Jump Metrics

Motion sensors embedded within your Edge are used to identify jumps. Recorded metrics include jump count, distance, hangtime, and jump speed. An alert will appear during a ride when a jump is detected, and the jump data screen will become active. This data screen will be hidden if a jump has not yet been detected on your ride.

The locations of the jumps and a Jump Score (combination of distance, hangtime, and speed) are available in the Garmin Connect™ platform once your activity has been uploaded.

Grit

Grit measures the overall difficulty of a mountain bike ride based on factors such as the speed of the ascent and descent and the angle of turns throughout the ride. This can be useful when comparing the difficulty of different trails that you ride. When you sync with Garmin Connect, you will receive a chart of the grit scores throughout the ride and your total score for the ride in Garmin Connect. You can also view the grit rating along the trail on your activity map. The more difficult the ride, the higher the grit score should be:

Grit Ratings
Solid green circle Easy: 0-20
Solid blue circle Moderate: 20-40
solid purple circle Hard: 40+

Flow

Flow measures how well you maintain speed during your mountain bike ride based on factors such as ascent, descent, and the angle of turns throughout the ride. This can be useful when analyzing your ride performance on a trail. When you sync with Garmin Connect, you will receive a chart of the flow scores throughout the ride and an overall average score for the ride in Garmin Connect. You can also view the grit rating along the trail on your activity map. Lower flow scores indicate a smoother ride while higher scores represent a ride with more speed fluctuations or stops:

Flow Ratings
solid green circle Easy: 0-20
solid yellow circle Moderate: 20-40
solid red circle Rough: 40+
