Incident Notifications / Emergency Assistance Contact Setup and Usage

WARNING! The device allows you to send your location to an emergency contact. This is a supplemental feature and should not be relied upon as a primary method to obtain emergency assistance. The Garmin Drive™ app does not contact emergency services on your behalf.

The Incident Detection and Notification feature, also known as Emergency Assistance, will send a message and your location to your Emergency Assistance contact if an incident is detected on your zūmo® XT GPS navigator. This can be useful if you are not able to call or send a message in an emergency situation. See Incident Detection and Notifications.

What Are the Requirements to Use Emergency Assistance?

  1. Power Connection

    • The zūmo XT must be connected to external power using the motorcycle mount. A USB cable should not be used.
  2. Bluetooth Connection and Settings

      • You are asked to select a contact shown on the zūmo® XT GPS navigator from your phone's phonebook when setting up incident notifications. The zūmo XT will only display approximately 35 contacts. (See the steps below to access more contacts to choose from).

      • The zūmo XT has a limit of 500 contacts. Having over 500 contacts may result in searches appearing differently or incomplete. For example: Some searches may not show the whole list or the list may not appear in alphanumeric order.

    • If you do not set up an incident contact, the zūmo XT device will automatically display the nearest address or geographic coordinates, if available, when it detects an incident.

      • Contacts must accept and agree to receive messages before becoming an active contact.
    • The incident contact's phone must be capable of receiving text messages (standard text messaging rates may apply) and/or email.
