Camera Specifications for the Garmin Speak Plus

The Garmin Speak Plus has a built-in dash camera for recording footage of traffic incidents. See below for detailed camera specifications, including information on its video resolution, frames per second (FPS), still, image resolution, viewing angle, sensor type, and microphones.

The Garmin Speak Plus comes with an 8 GB class 10 microSD card. The device is compatible with class 10 microSD cards between 4 GB and 64 GB in size.

Video Resolution

The video resolution refers to the size and quality of an image recorded.

The Garmin Speak Plus has two video resolution settings, Higher Resolution, and Medium Resolution.

    • Higher Resolution will save at 1080p, which is higher quality, but larger in size, so less footage can be held on the memory card at once.
    • Medium Resolution will save at 720p, which is lower in quality than 1080p but allows for more footage to be held on the memory card at once.

The video resolution setting can be found in the Garmin Speak app on your phone.

To change the video resolution settings:

    1. Open the Garmin Drive app or Garmin Speak app
    2. Select
    3. Touch Garmin Speak  (Skip this step if using the Garmin Speak app)
    4. Select Camera
    5. Select Quality if prompted
    6. Select the desired resolution

The device will now record in the chosen video resolution.

The following table reflects the typical maximum video recording if no photos or other data (data not placed on the SD card by the device) are present on the memory card.

Frames Per Second (FPS)

Frames Per Second (FPS) refers to the smoothness of movement in a recorded video. High FPS values will result in a smooth video, low FPS values will result in a video looking "choppy".

The Garmin Speak Plus will record at 30 FPS, which is an average value that balances video smoothness with file size.

Still Image Resolution

The still image resolution refers to the size of an image recorded and is generally counted in megapixels (MP). The Garmin Speak Plus will take pictures at 4 MP.

Viewing Angle

The viewing angle of a camera represents how wide of an area the image covers. The Garmin Speak Plus has a viewing angle of 74 degrees.

Sensor Type

The sensor is the piece of hardware that actually captures the light and converts it to the image you see. The Garmin Speak Plus has a CMOS 1/3" sensor.

Microphone

The Garmin Speak Plus has 2 microphones. These will be used for recording sound for the dash cam along with listening for voice instructions for Alexa.
