Using the Astro or Alpha to Track in Cold Weather Conditions
While Astro® and Alpha® dog tracking systems can be used to track collars in some cold weather conditions, there are some things to keep in mind before, during, and after using the handheld and collars in these conditions.
- Before Use/Charging: Keep the handheld and collars as warm as possible before using them. If you need to charge your collar and handheld1, it is recommended to charge at room temperature.
- Consult the owner's manual for your dog tracking handheld and collars for acceptable operating and charging temperatures
- During Use: Stay within the operating temperature range during use. Cold temperatures can drain lithium batteries more quickly. When the collar transmits while on low battery in cold conditions, it may shut down to avoid damage to the battery. Keep the handheld close to your body or inside a jacket when using below freezing.
- Consult the owner's manual for your dog tracking handheld or collars for acceptable operating temperatures
- Avoid extended use at or near the extremes
- After Use/Storing or storing your dog tracking handheld in extreme temperatures
