However, it is important to realize that the old Jeppesen database will be erased so if you need to reload that region you may need to purchase it and download it from the flyGarmin website. It is also important to note that updating the Jeppesen database will not affect the built-in "basemap". For example, if a GPSMAP 296 with America's Jeppesen database and America's basemap is updated with an Atlantic International Jeppesen database, the Jeppesen data will then cover Europe and Africa. However, the built-in basemap will still cover North, Central and South America - so the ground detail will not be the same quality provided by a GPSMAP 296 with the Atlantic International basemap. The basemap in your portable GPS cannot be updated or changed. The aera series and GPSMAP 696 / 695 have worldwide basemap information.
