Connecting a Fusion® Stereo to a Wired Remote or Chartplotter
All NMEA 2000-capable Fusion® stereos may be connected to the MS-NRX200i or the MS-NRX300, and ethernet-capable Fusion Apollo™ stereos can be controlled by the MS-ERX400 remote. NMEA 2000-capable stereos can also connect to a chartplotter with a media control feature, and Apollo stereos can connect to compatible Garmin® chartplotters using the Garmin Marine Network to Fusion Cables or the Garmin BlueNet™ Network to RJ45 Adapter Cable.
Note: Any stereo and remote, regardless of connection style, must each have the latest software to work together. See Related Content for information on updating software
For ethernet-capable Fusion Apollo stereos to connect to the MS-ERX400 remote, connect the network cable from the remote to the stereo. This can be connected directly to the stereo, or the stereo and remote can each be connected to a shared network router.
There are several ways to connect a NMEA 2000 capable stereo and an NRX remote can be connected via NMEA 2000. For a short introduction to setting up a NMEA 2000 backbone, see our support video. For more in-depth information on NMEA 2000, see our Technical Reference Guide. The information in the video will be enough for most connections. In these diagrams, except for the one not requiring a NMEA 2000 power cable, this is also how the stereo will connect to a chartplotter.
The MS-NRX200i and MS-NRX300 are supplied with an inline terminator, and most connections to the stereo will look like this.
If connecting to an existing NMEA 2000 backbone, or if an inline terminator is not desired or available, the NMEA 2000 backbone will look like this.
Some stereos are able to supply power over the NMEA 2000 network to power a remote directly by going to Settings > Power Options (skip this step on some devices) > NRX Power. This can be done using the supplied inline terminator or using a standard terminator as in the above diagram. See the stereo's owner's manual for whether or not the stereo has the NRX Power option.
Note: Only enable NRX Power if there are no other devices besides the stereo and remote on the network, or if there is a NMEA 2000 Power Isolator separating the stereo and remote from the rest of the network
