"Windows Protected Your PC" Message Displayed When Launching a Garmin Application

The message "Windows Protected Your PC" may prevent a Garmin Application from running on your computer. In situations where this occurs, it is possible that the downloaded Garmin .EXE file may be blocked, which will result in the aforementioned message.

To Disable the SmartScreen Protection for the Garmin Specific Application:

  1. Right click on the .EXE, and select Properties

  2. Click the General tab

  3. Click the Unblock button

  4. Click OK

NOTES:

  • Current & legacy Garmin Windows PC applications may be in .EXE file format, and can fail to install due to settings designed to protect the computer from potential viruses, malware, spyware, and other exploits

  • Disabling the Windows SmartScreen feature is not recommended, and can result in exposing the computer to potentially harmful programs

  • Applications such as Garmin Express, Software Updates, and various other configuration applications for hardware specific products should always be downloaded directly from the garmin.com website using a computer with the latest system software and virus definition updates
