Syncing Amazon Music to a Compatible Forerunner Watch

This article will provide instructions to use the Amazon Music application on your compatible Forerunner® watch downloaded from the Connect IQ™ store application.

What Are the Requirements to Use the Amazon Music Connect IQ App?

  • The watch must be paired to your smartphone through the Garmin Connect app.

  • The watch must be set up to connect to a Wi-Fi Network. For help see: Adding Wi-Fi Networks to Compatible Watches.

  • An Amazon Prime or Amazon Music Unlimited account is required. For details see: What is the Difference Between Prime Music and Amazon Music Unlimited?

  • You must be the Amazon Prime primary account holder. A family member sharing the benefit of Amazon Prime Music will not work. 

  • If you have never used the GPS on your watch, or if the battery has been completely discharged recently, you may be prompted to enable GPS after accessing the Amazon Music app. GPS can be enabled by starting an outdoor activity. For details refer to your owner's manual.

  • The app will work in the following countries:

    • Australia

    • Austria

    • Brazil

    • Canada

    • France

    • Germany

    • India

    • Italy

    • Japan

    • Mexico

    • New Zealand

    • Spain

    • United Kingdom

    • United States 

I Meet These Requirements. What Are the Next Steps?

The three steps listed below need to be completed when first setting up the Amazon Music app with your Forerunner watch. Once complete, you will only need to follow the third step when you want to load additional content to your watch. Select each section to expand and view instructions on completing each step:

Step 1: Download and Install the Amazon Music Connect IQ App

  1. Select the following link to download the app: Amazon Music Connect IQ app.

  2. Select the Down arrow next to Download in blue box button.

  3. If prompted, sign in to your Garmin account.

  4. Select your device to download the app.

  5. Acknowledge any app permission requests.

  6. The message should indicate that the app will be installed during the next sync. If this does not occur automatically, below are options to sync your device:

    • To Sync via Bluetooth: Be in range of your paired smartphone, then press and hold the power button to access the Controls Menu. Select blue arrows in shape of a circle to sync.

    • To Sync via Wi-Fi: Be in range of your Wi-Fi network, then press and hold the power button to access the Controls Menu. Select blue arrows in shape of a circle to sync.

    • To Sync Using Garmin Express: Connect the device using supplied power/data cable to a computer. Open Garmin Express. A sync will automatically occur once the device is detected. 

Once the sync is complete, the Amazon Music app will be installed on your device. You are ready to move to Step 2.

Step 2: Set Up the Amazon Music Connect IQ App

Once the app is installed, you will be prompted on the watch to continue the setup process.

  1. Hold the Down key to access the Music widget.

  2. Hold the Up/Menu key to access settings.

  3. Select Music Providers.

  4. Select Amazon Music.

  5. Press (don't hold) the Up/Menu key.

  6. SelectPurple square with Amazon smile icon (Amazon Music Icon).

  7. The screen should prompt you to visit https://amazon.com/code. The code provided on the watch will tie it to your Amazon account. Use a mobile device or personal computer to complete this step. Once completed allow up to a few minutes for the watch to proceed to the main menu.

You are ready to move to Step 3.

Step 3: Select and Sync Content to the Forerunner Watch

Your watch must be able to connect to your Wi-Fi network to download content from Amazon Music. For help see: Adding Wi-Fi Networks to Compatible Watches.

To sync new content to your watch, follow these steps:

  1. Hold the Down key to access the Music widget.

  2. Press (don't hold) the Up/Menu key.

  3. Select Purple square with Amazon smile icon (Amazon Music Icon).

  4. Select Browse.

  5. Select a category then choose the content you want to sync to your watch.

    • Content is available to download based on the permissions on your Amazon Music account. If you need assistance with music availability refer to Amazon Music's support.

    • At this point, the watch will attempt to connect to your Wi-Fi network. We recommend plugging the watch into a charger near the Wi-Fi router for the best results.

After you have added content to your watch, any changes you make to your playlist(s) will sync over automatically when your watch is charging and in the range of a saved Wi-Fi network. You can also manually initiate a sync to update playlists and report all songs played to Amazon Music by following these steps:

  1. Hold the Down key to access the Music widget.

  2. Press (don't hold) the Up/Menu key.

  3. SelectPurple square with Amazon smile icon (Amazon Music Icon).

  4. Select Sync.

    • At this point, the watch will attempt to connect to your Wi-Fi network. We recommend plugging the watch into a charger near the Wi-Fi router for the best results.
